‘Pen Tool Furniture Series,’ imbuing furniture with a curvilinear feel, wins Grand Prize  Sungeun Shim, a student of the Department of Metal Art and Design of the College of Art and Design, won the Emons Award, the grand prize in the GaGu Living Design Competition. Marking its 18th anniversary this year, the GaGu Living Design Competition is an event hosted by the Korea Federation of Furniture Industry Cooperatives and the monthly GaGu Guide.

Themed "Objets of imagination able to be shared in the future meta and the space of the present," the competition drew participation from domestic and foreign university students and designers. This year, 216 works from 30 of the 39 universities advanced from the preliminaries to the finals, signaling a 7:1 competition rate. For the screening of the finals on August 25, the actual works were judged directly at the exhibition site.

The screening, based on the criteria of marketability, design, and production feasibility, was followed by an awards ceremony on Monday, August 29. Sungeun Shim was awarded the Emons Award, the grand prize presented by the competition’s chief sponsor, Emons Furniture.

The award-winning ‘Pen Tool Furniture Series’ presents artistic furniture possessing a curvilinear feel, inspired by the characteristics of the Pen Tool used to draw freehand lines in Adobe programs such as Illustrator.
