SeoulTech Signs MOI for City Planning with the Government of El Salvador

Planned construction of a city planning research center in El Salvador along with creating Master’s and PhD programs in city design

SeoulTech signed an MOI with the government of El Salvador for city planning on October 22nd. The planned construction of a city planning research center in El Salvador was finalized, and Master’s and PhD programs in city design were also proposed.

SeoulTech President Kim Jong Ho and Special Advisor to the President of El Salvador Luis Eduardo Rodríguez Villacorta, El Salvador Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Milton Alcides Magaña Herrera, El Salvador Public Affairs Representative Jaime José López Badía, and SeoulTech School of Architecture Honorary Professor Park Byung Gyu attended the signing ceremony.

The MOI will expand educational infrastructure in the Central American region. In addition, SeoulTech and the City Planning and Design Research Institute will construct a city planning research institute in El Salvador and provide a Master’s and PhD program in city design. Moreover, the MOI also included the sharing of research resources and personnel exchanges.

A Specialized Graduate School Program for City Design will also be created along with Master’s and PhD programs in order to increase the quality of life for the citizens of El Salvador and the Central American region in terms of innovation, sustainability, recovery, and new technologies.

SeoulTech, the City Planning and Design Research Institute, and the Government of El Salvador will cooperate on research projects and share information involving mutual interests. They will invite personnel to education, science, and technology-related seminars and symposiums. Other specific details of the MOI are planned to be defined in the future.

Special Advisor to the President of El Salvador Luis Eduardo Rodríguez Villacorta said, “Many young students in El Salvador and the Central American region suffer from a lack of infrastructure and unstable social circumstances. We hope that the signing of this MOI will allow for an exemplary precedent in El Salvador and also expand to other Central American countries.”
