Professor Lim Won-Sik of the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at Seoul National University of Science and Technology (Seoul Tech) was honored with a Presidential Commendation at the 22nd Automobile Day ceremony held on May 14, recognizing his contributions to the development of the domestic automobile industry.
The Automobile Day event is co-hosted annually by the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) and the Korea Automobile Industry Cooperative Association (KAICA) to commend individuals who have strengthened the competitiveness and sustainable growth of the automotive sector.
Established in 2004 to commemorate the milestone of 10 million domestic automobile exports achieved in 1999, the event annually bestows government honors and ministerial commendations to key contributors to the industry’s advancement. This year, 14 government awards were presented, including one Silver Tower and one Bronze Tower Industrial Medal, three Industrial Service Medals, four Presidential Commendations, five Prime Minister’s Commendations, and 20 Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy Citations.
Alongside Professor Lim, recipients of the Presidential Commendation included Executive Vice President Lee Sung-young of Kia, Executive Vice President Song Kwan-heum of GM Technical Center Korea, and Senior Researcher Lee Bong-hyun of the Korea Automobile Research Institute.
Professor Lim was recognized for his pivotal role in securing the automotive industry’s future competitiveness, notably through the development of vehicle R&D strategies and education of related major students.
