From April 16 to 18, 2025, a delegation from Seoul National University of Science and Technology visited Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University in Kazakhstan, successfully concluding an itinerary focused on expanding cooperation between Korea and Kazakhstan in education, science, and technology.
President Kim Dong-hwan held official talks with Nurlybek Nalibayev, Governor of Kyzylorda Province, discussing higher education and academic exchanges, joint research projects, and science and technology-based industrial collaboration. Governor Nalibayev expressed keen interest in sustainable regional development cooperation in areas including agricultural product processing, the food industry, tourism, renewable energy, waste treatment, and lithium research in the Aral Sea region. In response, President Kim proposed establishing a startup incubator, cultivating IT professionals, and expanding academic and research exchanges.
President Kim also met with Rauza Mendaliyeva, Director of the Internationalization Division at Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Beibitkul Karimova, President of Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda University, to review the dual degree program’s status and hold detailed discussions on joint academic programs in AI architecture and data management Currently, 100 students on Kazakh government scholarships are participating
President Kim delivered a public lecture at the School of Artificial Intelligence on “IT and AI Technology Trends in Korea,” highlighting Korea’s digital transformation, advanced technologies, and global AI trends.
At the Republican Seminar, attended by officials from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Education, education quality management, and technical and vocational education agencies, President Kim and Director Kim Tae-hee of the International Exchange Office gave lectures. President Kim discussed Korean IT and AI trends, while Director Kim presented on “Prospects for Korea-Kazakhstan AI Cooperation and Talent Development,” outlining a concrete vision for practical research and educational collaboration.
The Seoul Tech delegation also held admissions briefings for students at major Kazakh secondary schools—including Nazarbayev Intellectual School, Bilim Innovation Lyceum, Murager School, and School No. 125—promoting exchanges with future talent.
President Kim Dong-hwan stated, “This visit was a valuable opportunity to advance practical cooperation with Kazakhstan based on Seoul Tech’s technological and educational strengths." He added, "We aim to position ourselves as a leading university in global cooperation through sustained exchange and joint projects.”
