Kwon Byeong-su (photo), who holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the Department of Fine Chemistry, Seoul Tech (advisor: Professor Lee Dongkuk), recently received a doctoral degree in chemistry from MIT, the department announced on February 8.
Kwon published numerous Science Citation Index (SCI)-grade papers while studying for his PhD at MIT (advisor: Professor Hong Mei) and wrote a doctoral thesis titled “Characterization of Structure and Dynamics of Membrane Proteins from Solid-State NMR.”
He particularly used cutting-edge testing techniques for the study’s solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (SS-NMR), and dealt with the structure and dynamics of Influenza A virus M2 and HIV-1 glycoprotein gp41. The findings are expected to be used as important materials for future research in the field.
