SeoulTech Hosts the 13th Hongreung Forum
 - A discussion on strategies for establishing the Hongreung Global Research and Development Special District

□ SeoulTech hosted the 13th Hongreung Forum on May 29th, 2019 at the Technocube Cube Hall to discuss the subject of strategies for establishing the Hongreung Global Research and Development Special District.

  ◦ The Hongreung Forum is an academic and research forum meeting twice annually since its establishment in July 2012, and consists of SeoulTech, KIST, Kyunghee University, Korea University, Seoul City University, Dongduk Women’s University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and other research institutions to discover and share ways to collaborate with regional communities.

□ This year’s forum opened with a presentation, a ceremony for the launch of the Hongreung Fund and an awards ceremony for the Public Design Competition.

  ◦ The ceremony for the launch of the Hongreung Fund was joined by participating Hongreung members (KIST, KISTI, Kyunghee University, Korea University, SeoulTech, Surim Cultural Foundation), fund managers (Caseground Ventures), Democratic Party Representatives Yoo Seung Hee, Min Byung Doo and Ko Yong Jin and Sungbukgu District Mayor Lee Seung Ro to celebrate a joint fund to be used to support the listing of companies created by Hongreung. 

 * The fund (16.9 billion won) was created by participating institutions to strengthen commercial capabilities, technology commercialization and vitalization of entrepreneurship efforts within the Hongreung cluster.
 
  ◦ The awards ceremony for the public design competition awarded ten projects according to spatial design, facility and visual design based on the Hwegiro area in Dongdaemungu.

□ Hongreung Clustering Project Head Yoon Seok Jin presented a strategy regarding the technology, commercialization and regulations, including a vision of the rebirth of the Northeast Seoul area by creating new high value employment opportunities and state of the art entrepreneurship efforts through the creation of the Hongreung Research and Development Special District.

□ The second presentation by SeoulTech Academic Industrial Research Vice President Lee Dong Hoon proposed a plan for SeoulTech and the usage of facilities and infrastructure for the Hongreung Global Research and Development Special District.

□ The panel debate including Board Chairman Kim Myung Ja. Ministry of ICT Science Technology Employment Innovation Head Lee Chang Yoon, Ministry of Transportation and Land City Economics Head Jung Seung Hyun, Seoul Metropolitan City Government Growth Project Head Lee Hoe Seung and Seoul Research Center Head Seo Wang Jin was held for seventy minutes to discuss Hongreung’s role in the special district and specific plans.

  ◦ Moreover, Saemaeul Board Member Lee Byung Han and Dongdaemungu Cooperation Committee Member Kim Jung Il worked on the Civilian Representatives Panel and raised the issue of increasing interest in the local community on the special district.

□ President Kim Jong Ho said, “Through the excellent infrastructure of SeoulTech, we hope that Hongreung will be able to become a successful example of regional innovative growth based on scientific technology.”
