Acquired “Class A,” thanks to the systemic management of the program that fosters competent people with practical skills

On March 2, the Seoul National University of Science and Technology (President Kim Jongho, hereinafter referred to as SeoulTech) made the great achievement of getting a “Class A” grade at the “evaluation of achievements made by the first batch of universities nationwide managing the work–study dual system of the IPP type,” executed by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea and organized by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor. Before being notified of the result of the grading, the “Briefing on the Achievements Made by the IPP-Type Work–Study Dual System Project” was held in The-K Hotel in Yangje-dong, Seoul, Korea, on January 11.

Last year, SeouTech’s Dual Joint Training Center (Center Chief: Professor Kim Seong-gon) dispatched 156 juniors and seniors of 19 departments to 37 companies and agencies through the IPP-type long-term on-the-job training program. In addition, it sent 30 students to 11 companies as learning workers through the work–study dual system program by managing National Competency Standards (NCS)-based qualifying courses in the fields of civil design, semiconductor equipment development, visual design, and architecture design, with the departments of Construction System Engineering, Mechanical System and Design Engineering, Visual Communication Design, and Architectural Engineering, among others.
During the evaluation of achievements made, SeoulTech was highly graded for having provided the opportunity to students to build practical on-the-job experiences and for systematically having operated programs to educate them into becoming competent people with practical skills that companies want and employ to solve the employment mismatch between universities and companies. In particular, it is highly meaningful that the university was selected for Class A, which is the highest grade, among the first batch of 13 universities nationwide that have participated in the IPP-type work–study dual system project for 3 years since 2015.

“Our university will work harder to contribute to vitalizing the university–industry cooperation inside the university through the IPP-type work–study dual system project and further improve the chance of our graduates at employment by solving the mismatch between universities and industries,” said Chief Kim Seong-gon of the Dual Joint Training Center.
The IPP-type work–study dual system project is an industry–university cooperation model project conducted by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labor to enhance the practical on-the-job skills of university students and solve the employment mismatch between universities and companies. The project is executed combined with the “NCS-linked work–study dual system” and the “IPP-type long-term on-the-job training program (IPP Co-op)” for universities to provide theoretical education to students participating in the on-the-job training and for companies to take responsibility for the students’ employment and training in order to educate and train them into becoming “competent people with practical skills” needed by industries.
